{"id":8075,"date":"2018-05-04T22:55:04","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T20:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iristech.co\/?p=8075"},"modified":"2019-11-25T17:31:40","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T15:31:40","slug":"why-does-direct-sunlight-damage-our-eyes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iristech.co\/why-does-direct-sunlight-damage-our-eyes\/","title":{"rendered":"Why does direct sunlight damage our eyes?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aside from the colors we see light constitutes of much more things<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/light-spectrum-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8076\" src=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/light-spectrum-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"286\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Visible light is only small portion of the light that the Sun emits.<\/p>\n<p>The wavelengths from the router, the wavelengths from the microwave or the radio waves, all of this things is light in one way or another.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, it will be better to say that all visible light is actually different wavelengths that our eyes and brain makes sense of by giving the wavelength a color.<\/p>\n<p>So the problem is that we are really gentle creatures and almost everything can harm us.<\/p>\n<p>This is why X-rays are bad for us because our atoms and DNA may become damaged. Same goes for cosmic rays and gamma rays.<\/p>\n<p>Our Earth atmosphere blocks most of these harmful rays so you don\u2019t need to worry about it but a lot of <b>UV light <\/b>passes down from the atmosphere and enters the ground.<\/p>\n<p><b>UV light<\/b> and <b>Blue light <\/b>are really high-energy lights and they cause a lot of damage to us.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this high-energy light, we burn under the Sun and our skin can become damaged<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/sunburn.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8077\" src=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/sunburn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"636\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our eyes, however, doesn\u2019t have the same protective mechanism for repairing like our skin and looking at <b>UV <\/b>and <b>Blue light<\/b> directly is cumulative and you can permanently damage your vision in the long run.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/damage-to-the-retina.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8078\" src=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/damage-to-the-retina.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While there is some protection for <b>UVC <\/b>and <b>UVB <\/b>light, our eyes can\u2019t block <b>UVA <\/b>and <b>Blue light<\/b> and these kinds of lights enter deep into our retina.<\/p>\n<p>This may cause <b>Macular degeneration<\/b> and other <b>injuries<\/b> in the long run to the eye.<\/p>\n<p>This is why wearing sunglasses is recommended when you go outside and it\u2019s bad to look directly at the Sun.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/light-sources.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8079\" src=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/light-sources.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, what most people would not tell you is that most monitor emits as much blue light as the Sun and also cause permanent eye injuries in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>This is why it\u2019s good to wear your sunglasses even in front of the monitor or if you don\u2019t want to look dorky you can use <a href=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\">blue light filter software<\/a> like <a href=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\">Iris<\/a> which will automatically reduce the blue light emitted from your monitor so your eyes will be protected even without sunglasses.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, <b>UV light<\/b> enters deep into our retina and cause damage and <b>Blue light<\/b> is also bad for the same reason.<\/p>\n<p>I also\u00a0have one more article if you want to read more about these kinds of things:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/iristech.co\/blue-light\/\">https:\/\/iristech.co\/blue-light\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"excerpt\">Aside from the colors we see light constitutes of much more things Visible light is only small portion of the light that the Sun emits.
